How to Clean Clear Aligners: Daily Care Guide
By Dr. Ahmad Ejaz (BDS), Orthodontist at Aligno Islamabad
Keeping your clear aligners clean is essential for hygiene, comfort, and treatment effectiveness. This guide covers daily cleaning routines, deep cleaning techniques, and common mistakes that can damage or stain your trays.
Daily Cleaning Routine
Rinse your aligners every time you remove them. Brush them gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush and clear, unscented liquid soap. Avoid using toothpaste as it can be abrasive and scratch the surface.
Deep Cleaning Methods
Soak your aligners in a denture cleaner or clear aligner cleaning solution once daily for 15-30 minutes. You can also use a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and lukewarm water.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Never use hot water — it can warp the aligners
- Avoid coloured mouthwash — it can stain the trays
- Do not use abrasive toothpaste or hard brushes
- Never leave aligners in direct sunlight or heat
